Mel Brooks Slated to Reprise Role in 'Spaceballs 2'

?si=HGwuY06Op1Tedfix

Summary

  • Comedy icon Mel Brooks is confirmed to return as Yogurt in Spaceballs 2, slated for a 2027 release
  • Rick Moranis is reportedly coming out of retirement to play Dark Helmet again, and Bill Pullman will return as Lone Starr
  • Josh Gad is set to co-write, co-produce, and star in the film, with Keke Palmer also joining the cast

Nearly four decades after Spaceballs warped into cult classic status, the long-rumored sequel is officially a go, and to the immense delight of fans, comedy legend Mel Brooks is confirmed to reprise his iconic role as Yogurt. The announcement, made just this week, has sent shockwaves of excitement through the entertainment world, promising a return to the satirical brilliance only Brooks can deliver.

Set for a theatrical release in 2027 with Amazon MGM Studios, Spaceballs 2 will see the 98-year-old maestro not only back in front of the camera as the wise, merchandising-obsessed Yogurt (a parody of Yoda), but also serving as a producer. Brooks himself unveiled the news with a characteristically humorous social media teaser, featuring a Star Wars-esque opening crawl that brilliantly skewers Hollywood's current obsession with endless sequels and reboots. His direct message at the end, "After 40 years we asked what do the fans want... but instead, we're making this movie," perfectly encapsulates the irreverent spirit of the original.

The excitement doesn't stop with Brooks' return. In a move that has further electrified fans, Rick Moranis is also reportedly set to come out of a lengthy retirement to reprise his role as the hilariously villainous Dark Helmet. Moranis's absence from live-action films for almost three decades has made his potential return one of the most anticipated in recent memory. Adding to the returning cast, Bill Pullman will be back as Lone Starr, the charming rogue equivalent of Han Solo.

New talent is also joining the ranks, with Josh Gad confirmed to lead the cast, co-write the screenplay (alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez), and co-produce. Keke Palmer is also slated for an as-yet-unspecified role, bringing fresh energy to the ensemble. Josh Greenbaum (known for Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) is set to direct.

The original Spaceballs (1987) perfectly lampooned the Star Wars saga and other sci-fi tropes, building a devoted following over the years. With the landscape of cinematic franchises having exploded since its debut, Spaceballs 2 is perfectly poised to deliver a fresh wave of satirical commentary on the blockbuster era. For those who believe the Schwartz is still strong, this sequel promises to be a comedic force to be reckoned with.

‘F1® The Movie’ Unveils Thrilling New Trailer With Brad Pitt at the Wheel

Summary

  • Warner Bros. releases a new, emotionally-driven trailer for F1® The Movie
  • The film features authentic racing footage and a soundtrack by Hans Zimmer
  • Starring Brad Pitt, the film premieres internationally on June 25

After dropping the official trailer for the F1® The Movie last month, Warner Bros. continues to anticipate the film’s release with a new full-length trailer. The previous trailer focused on dramatic conflicts and intense action within the high-stakes world of Formula 1 racing. Meanwhile, the new promotional video is much more emotionally driven.

The trailer begins with a scene featuring Kate McKenna (portrayed by Kerry Condon), the team director of APX GP, engaging in what appears to be an interview with Sony Hayes (Brad Pitt), establishing the narrative surrounding Hayes' return to F1 driving after a significant break and the associated stigma.

One of the standout elements of the trailer is its authenticity, with scenes filmed at actual Formula 1 races over the past two years. The production team maintained a close working relationship with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who also serves as one of the film's producers alongside Brad Pitt, Jerry Bruckheimer, Joseph Kosinski, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Chad Oman.

The trailer featured breathtaking shots from Silverstone, Las Vegas, Abu Dhabi and Monza, blending real-world racing footage with cinematic storytelling. Pitt and his co-star Damson Idris, who plays Hayes’ young teammate Joshua Pearce, were even seen standing alongside real F1 drivers during pre-race ceremonies, further immersing the film in the sport’s reality.

The production of F1® The Movie involved a collaborative effort from a diverse range of creative professionals. The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who worked from a screenplay penned by Ehren Kruger, based on a story by Kosinski and Kruger. Daniel Lupi serves as the executive producer for the project. Notably, the film's soundtrack is crafted by the acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer.

Watch the newest trailer for F1® The Movie above. The film is set to premiere internationally on June 25, while its release date for North America is June 27. Following its theatrical run, the film will also be available for streaming on Apple TV+.
