Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has sparked reactions online after recounting an encounter with Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a video shared on social media, the Zazoo Zeh crooner revealed that he met the politician during a recent flight. According to Portable, while he was seated in first class, Peter Obi was in the economy section of the plane.

The singer expressed his disappointment that the only thing he received from the former Anambra State governor was a handshake. He went on to suggest that if it had been another politician, like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he would have been gifted cash.

“The day I saw Peter Obi, make I no lie, it was just a handshake I got. I was in first class, Peter Obi was in economy. I greeted him, and he only gave me a handshake. If it was Tinubu, I would’ve collected bundles,” Portable lamented.

His remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with many criticizing his expectations while others found humor in the singer’s characteristic outspokenness.

“Perer Obi is very selfish- I met with him; he only gave me a handshake. But if I had met President Tinubu, he would have given me money.”

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has weighed in on the controversy stirred by social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM) over comments about Afrobeats superstars Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.

The drama unfolded after the three music heavyweights recently splurged on luxury cars, including Burna Boy’s N3.2 billion McLaren, prompting VDM, real name Vincent Martins Otse, to criticize them in a viral video. In the clip, VDM accused the artists of neglecting ordinary Nigerians and not using their wealth to support the people.

Reacting to the claims, Portable took to social media to defend the trio, questioning VDM’s credibility and motives. The controversial Zazoo crooner recalled personal experiences, revealing that Burna Boy once gave him N20 million and Davido had publicly donated large sums to charity in the past.

Portable also took shots at VDM, asking how funds reportedly donated to his NGO, including N100 million allegedly from Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy, were spent. He challenged the activist to show evidence of projects like schools or housing initiatives funded with the donations.

In a fiery video, Portable reminded VeryDarkMan of his humble beginnings, calling out what he described as hypocrisy. “People should be free to spend their money as they wish,” Portable stated, adding that no amount given out will ever satisfy everyone.

The singer ended his response by cautioning VDM against overstepping his boundaries and targeting respected figures in the entertainment industry, insisting that the critic should focus on meaningful issues.

Portable slams AMVCA organizers for overlooking Ibrahim Chatta

Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has openly criticized the organizers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), accusing them of sidelining veteran actor Ibrahim Chatta during the recently concluded 11th edition of the awards.

Reacting about AMVCA via a passionate video on his Instagram page, Portable claimed that Ibrahim Chatta, who was nominated in the Best Lead Actor category for his role in House of GAA, was denied the award due to alleged industry politics and favoritism. The award ultimately went to Femi Adebayo for his performance in Seven Doors, while Chioma Chukwuka bagged Best Lead Actress.

“There’s a gang up in the Nigerian entertainment industry, even in Nollywood. They refused to give Ibrahim Chatta an award at the AMVCA despite his excellent acting. Just like they snubbed me at The Headies,” Portable lamented.

He further criticized Nigeria’s award culture, alleging that accolades are often given based on influence and money rather than merit. “We don’t need awards. We need food and money. Some people buy awards. Ibrahim Chatta, if they don’t honor you, God will reward you,” he added, calling Chatta his mentor and source of inspiration.

Interestingly, while fans and industry watchers debated the outcome, Ibrahim Chatta himself has now addressed the situation. In a recent interview on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast with skit maker IsBae U, the Nollywood star revealed that he was never snubbed by the AMVCA organizers in 2025, because he did not submit any work for consideration.

Chatta calmly explained, “I’m not interested in the AMVCA. Why should I pray for something I’m not pursuing? Whenever I feel like participating, I’ll make a film, submit it, and see if I’m worthy of the award.”

The actor, known for his exceptional performances in Yoruba-language films, suggested that his absence from major social events might have contributed to past assumptions about his exclusion. “Maybe they feel if they give me an award, I won’t show up because I’m not a very social person,” he noted.

Chatta, however, pointed out that his career is already filled with numerous recognitions, including the Nelson Mandela Award, the Pink Award from Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, and several others from industry peers like Odunlade Adekola.

While Portable’s comments have reignited conversations about fairness in Nigeria’s entertainment awards, Chatta seems content focusing on his craft and personal milestones rather than chasing industry validation.
