For months, Ayra Starr has been teasing her fans with the prospect of new music, and fast forward to today, the superstar has released a new single, “Tornado“. Following a live preview of the unreleased record during her session at NPR’s Tiny Desk, the Mavin Records singer has officially delivered the single which serves as the primary glimpse into her highly anticipated forthcoming studio album, “Starr Girl.”

“Tornado” is a confident anthem centered on self-worth, high status, and owning your presence the moment you step into a room. Ayra Starr positions herself as the ultimate center of attention, using the track to celebrate her charisma and physical appeal with direct, unapologetic lyricism. Through lines like “I’m that girl they wanna be” and “My figure no be fable,” she reminds listeners that her global appeal is entirely real and unexaggerated. She even includes a playful nod to her rising value in the music industry with the boastful line, “Inflation, I’m the price they wanna beat.”

Co-produced by Skillies, Shizzi, and RiotUSA, the single captures a vibrant, celebratory mood of enjoying life and luxury with friends, summarised perfectly as she sings about being in the club with her girls and “treatin’ every day like e be a new year.”

Burna Boy has officially performed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony — and the moment was everything Nigerian music fans have been waiting for. The Lagos-born Afrobeats star took the stage at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Thursday, 11 June, alongside Colombian superstar Shakira, in front of over 80,000 fans inside the stadium and millions watching around the world.

Shakira opened the performance, taking to the pitch and executing the choreography of “Dai Dai” — the official 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem — with her dancers before Burna Boy joined her on stage. The two danced together as the crowd roared, closing the song with “Dale, allez, let’s go!” Following the performance, plumes of red and green smoke erupted from the top of the stadium in a nod to the colours of the Mexican flag.

For Shakira, the performance was a return to the World Cup stage 16 years after “Waka Waka” became the defining cultural moment of the 2010 South Africa tournament. For Burna Boy, it was one of the biggest stages any Nigerian artist has ever stood on — performing the official anthem of the most watched sporting event on the planet.

The ceremony also featured Tyla and Megan Thee Stallion, with Alejandro Fernández performing the Mexican national anthem and Tyla delivering the South African anthem. World Cup Ambassador Salma Hayek Pinault also welcomed fans from around the world before the opening match between Mexico and South Africa got underway.

If you’ve been waiting for Ayra Starr‘s Tiny Desk Concert, consider this your sign to stop everything and press play.

The Nigerian superstar finally made her debut behind NPR’s iconic desk, and she gave us a version of herself we don’t get to see every day. Gone were the statement heels, the mini skirts, and the full glam. Instead, Ayra showed up in a simple black sweatsuit and let her voice take centre stage.

And it worked.

From the moment she launched into “Birds Sing of Money,” it was clear this wasn’t going to be just another performance. Backed by a phenomenal live band, Ayra floated through fan favourites like “Gimme Dat,” “Who’s Dat Girl,” “Rush,” and “Commas,” giving each song a fresh energy that made them feel brand new.

As if that wasn’t enough, she also surprised fans with the debut of “Tornado,” a previously unheard track from her upcoming album, “Starrgirl.”

But it was the closing moments that really got us. Performing “Amin” and “Orun,” Ayra leaned into vulnerability, gratitude, and faith. The songs felt like a thank-you note wrapped in melody—a reflection on everything it took to get here.

Fun fact: Ayra has been dreaming about performing at Tiny Desk since she was 14 years old. Watching her finally step behind that famous desk felt like witnessing a full-circle moment in real time.

If you have been jamming to “Dai Dai” by Shakira and Burna Boy since it dropped on 15 May — and if you have watched the music video featuring Uganda’s Ghetto Kids — then we have some very good news for you. That song is just one piece of a much bigger project, and Nigeria did not stop at one feature. The Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album drops tomorrow, 5 June, and it turns out four Nigerian artists made the cut on what FIFA has described as the most extensive multi-track music initiative ever created for a World Cup.

Burna Boy’s “Dai Dai” with Shakira serves as the official song of the tournament and the theme for the FIFA Education Fund, with songwriting credits that include Ed Sheeran among others. Rema follows with “Goals,” a collaboration with Thai rapper and singer Lisa and Brazilian singer Anitta that brings Afrobeats, K-pop, and Latin pop together on one track — released on 21 May and already doing numbers. Davido features on “No Place Like Home” alongside electronic music collective Major Lazer and Canadian pop icon Nelly Furtado, while Ayra Starr rounds off Nigeria’s representation with “Show Me,” alongside American rapper Latto.

The album’s full 18-track lineup also features the likes of Future and Tyla, Stormzy, The Rolling Stones, Daddy Yankee, and 21 Savage.

The Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album is available to pre-save now across all major streaming platforms and releases in full tomorrow, 5 June 2026. Set your reminders.

If you have spent any time on the internet over the last few years, chances are you have come across the Ghetto Kids. The Ugandan dance group’s high-energy performances have a definitive way of stopping people mid-scroll. Recently, the group brought their signature choreography to “Dai Dai,” the official 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem by Shakira and Burna Boy.

As the world prepares for their upcoming appearance alongside Shakira at the World Cup final halftime show at MetLife Stadium on 19 July, here are five essential facts about the Kampala creators who made it to football’s ultimate stage.

They grew up in the Katwe slums of Kampala

Founded in 2014 by Dauda Kavuma, the Ghetto Kids began in the Katwe slums of Kampala, Uganda. Kavuma’s foundation has provided shelter, nutrition, and education to street children since 2007, using music, dance, and drama as a sustainable pathway to a better life. The group currently supports 60 children between the ages of 4 and 16, all coming from underprivileged backgrounds.

A viral 2014 video changed everything

The group first secured international attention after a homemade dance routine to Ugandan star Eddy Kenzo‘s hit track “Sitya Loss” went viral online. Their digital footprint expanded significantly in 2017 when they teamed up with Rwanda-born choreographer Sherrie Silver for a routine to Angolan musician Dotorado Pro’s Afro-house track “Marimba Rija,” gathering over 25 million views and establishing a permanent global audience.

They made Britain’s Got Talent history

The Ghetto Kids became a global talking point when they earned a Golden Buzzer mid-performance on Britain’s Got Talent—marking the first time in the franchise’s history that the buzzer was pressed before an act had even finished their routine. The moment introduced their story to a massive European audience and ultimately propelled them to the competition’s finals.

They have commanded global stages for years

Their upcoming stadium performance is part of a long history of high-profile appearances. The group famously featured in French Montana’s multi-platinum “Unforgettable” music video, performed at events during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and made their Norwegian debut at the Oslo Business Forum in September 2025. Their accolades include an AFRIMMA Award, a YouTube Creators Award, and official recognition from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

They are co-starring in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final

The group’s relationship with Shakira evolved from a viral dance challenge they created for one of her tracks, eventually landing them a featured slot in the official Hannah Lux Davis-directed music video for “Dai Dai” alongside Burna Boy. Now, Shakira has confirmed the Ghetto Kids will join her live on stage at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium for the halftime show on 19 July—placing the Kampala dancers in front of a global television audience expected to exceed one billion viewers

When Arsenal took to the streets to celebrate their triumphant title parade, all eyes were on London—but it was our very own Afrobeats queen, Tiwa Savage, who brought a distinct flair to the historic trophy celebration.

The multi-award-winning singer stepped out to celebrate the team’s massive achievement, making sure to represent home while supporting her favourite club.

She cleverly reimagined a classic red-and-white Arsenal football jersey, styling it as a tight crop that sat perfectly above a pair of ultra-baggy, wide-leg utility jeans. The relaxed, light-wash denim featured large front patch pockets, creating a relaxed, floor-grazing street silhouette.

Proving that her patriotism travels everywhere with her, she draped the green-and-white Nigerian flag across her shoulders, making a bold statement amidst the sea of red. For accessories, she kept things functional yet high-fashion, fastening an off-white leather belt pouch at her waist, wearing neutral headwear, and stacking bracelets on her wrists.

The absolute talking point of the outfit was her choice of footwear. Poking out from beneath her sweeping denim cuffs was a pair of white Maison Margiela Tabi split-toe shoes, adding a major avant-garde element to a football-centered afternoon.

It is safe to say she found the ultimate sweet spot between sports culture and high-end street style.

Are you loving how she styled her jersey for the parade?

If you have been counting down to the World Cup and listening to “Dai Dai” on repeat, the good news is that you can now head straight to Shakira’s YouTube channel to watch the official music video. The Colombian pop icon and Burna Boy have officially dropped the highly anticipated visuals for their mega-collaboration, and it is already pulling in massive numbers online. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, the video splits its breathtaking scale between the sun-drenched streets of Miami and a stunning sequence with Shakira perched right on top of Mexico City’s iconic Angel of Independence.

While the track is a certified summer bop, the insane star power in this video has everyone talking. Serving as the official anthem for the tournament and the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, the visuals feature huge cameos from football royalty. Keep your eyes peeled because Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, and Rodri all make major appearances, adding some serious sports authority to the global track.

Despite the multi-million dollar football roster, the absolute heart and soul of the video belongs to Uganda’s phenomenal Triplets Ghetto Kids. The dance troupe is featured heavily right from the opening frames, delivering their unmistakable pace alongside Shakira in a dramatic desert landscape set against a massive Baobab tree.

Their inclusion brings a raw African dance spirit to the screen, completely stealing the show and grounding the video’s theme of global unity. Burna Boy delivers his verses with effortless charisma, showing once again why he is a premier global performer.

Asake is keeping the momentum moving forward. Fresh off the release of his fourth studio album, “M$NEY,” the superstar has dropped the official music video for “Gratitude.”

Instead of the high-speed street scenes often found in contemporary Afro-fusion visuals, “Gratitude” opts for an intimate live studio-orchestra arrangement. Asake delivers the track from a vintage microphone setup, styled in a silver-studded black leather jacket, dark sunglasses, and a cap. Surrounding him, a group of musicians clad in uniform shades of off-white and cream anchor the layout. Classical violinists and a cellist provide the backing instrumentation alongside a live rhythm section, whilst a saxophonist delivers a solo while completely reclined on a studio mat.

As the track builds, a backing choir dressed in flowing white robes joins hands behind him, elevating the song’s choral Amapiano harmonies to a striking finish.

Lyrically, “Gratitude” serves as a deeply reflective anchor for the “M$NEY” album. Amidst his global success, the track offers a moment of pause—a sincere thank-you note for preservation, growth, and grounding. The acoustic elements of the live orchestra amplify this message, matching the introspective weight of the lyrics with rich instrumentation.

The release also serves as a major announcement. The video wraps up by rolling out the official dates and venues for Asake’s upcoming “In God We Trust World Tour” across North America and Europe, featuring Uncle Waffles as a special guest

Long-distance love is not for the weak, and Celeste Ojatula knows it.

On “This Side of Love,” the singer teams up with Dwin, The Stoic for a sweet, slow-burning track about loving someone from afar and still finding ways to feel close to them. From the soft guitar lines to the easy rhythm running through the song, everything about it feels warm and comforting, like a late-night phone call you do not want to end. Dwin slips into the record smoothly with understated lines and soft claps that make the song feel even more intimate, as though we are listening in on two people trying to hold onto each other from different corners of the world.

Then there is the video, which might just make you want to redecorate a room with someone you are in love with. One of the first scenes shows Celeste perched on Dwin’s shoulders while they paint a wall deep teal-green together, and the chemistry between them carries through the rest of the clip. Between silhouette shots, teasing little hand-clapping moments, and cosy close-ups in softly lit spaces, the visual feels personal in a way that quietly pulls you in.

“This Side of Love is a tender song about what it feels like to love someone in these times when they could be anywhere in the world,” Celeste says. “It’s a bittersweet feeling, and I wanted to remind myself we’ll always have each other.”

The single sets the tone for Celeste’s forthcoming EP, *Our Time In The Sun*, arriving on May 29, 2026. If this track is anything to go by, the project may well lean into love, longing, closeness, and the small emotional moments people carry with them long after conversations end.

The wait is over. Nigerian Afrobeats icon Burna Boy and Colombian superstar Shakira have released “Dai Dai,” the official FIFA World Cup 2026 song. It is Burna Boy’s first time on an official FIFA World Cup anthem, and Shakira’s second — her first being the iconic Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) from the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

“Dai Dai” is a nearly four-minute track blends Afrobeats, dance-pop, and reggaetón into a chorus that rallies in five languages — Japanese, Spanish, French, English, and Italian — with the words “Dai, dai, ikou, dale, allez, let’s go.” Lyrically, it is a love letter to football and the people who play it. Shakira opens with “You knew from the day you were born, that here in this place you belong,” while Burna follows with “Go follow your desire, where there’s a will there’s a way.” The pair also shout out the legends — Maradona, Maldini, Ronaldo, Beckham, Kaká, and Messi — as well as participating countries including Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, the United States, and the Netherlands.

Royalties from “Dai Dai” will go towards the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which is targeting $100 million by the end of the tournament to provide children across the world with access to quality education and football.

Africa’s presence at the 2026 FIFA World Cup goes well beyond the official anthem. A record 10 African teams have qualified for this tournament — Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Ghana, Algeria, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, South Africa, and DR Congo. On the performance side, Tyla and Rema will also perform at the US opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on 12 June alongside Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, and LISA.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on 11 June at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City and wraps on 19 July at the New York New Jersey Stadium, where Shakira will co-headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show alongside Madonna and BTS. Dai Dai will almost certainly soundtrack all of it.

Rema and Tyla confirmed for the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony performance in Los Angeles.

Nigerian star Rema and South Africa’s Tyla are set to perform at the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony at the Los Angeles Stadium on 12 June 2026.

Don’t you just love it when the worlds of music and football come together? There is something truly special about the way a massive stadium anthem can unite fans from every corner of the globe, and for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Africa is taking centre stage. FIFA has officially confirmed that Rema and Tyla are set to headline the opening ceremony in the United States, ensuring that the sounds of Afrobeats and Amapiano lead the world’s biggest sporting conversation.

The ceremony is scheduled for 12 June 2026 at the Los Angeles Stadium. Designed to celebrate the cultural diversity of the host nation, the event will see Rema and Tyla joining a star-studded lineup that includes Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, and LISA. This Los Angeles showcase is one of three major opening celebrations across North America, with additional events planned for Mexico City and Toronto.

The African excellence doesn’t stop at the opening ceremony, either. Burna Boy is making history as a featured artist on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup theme song. Titled “Dai Dai“, the track sees him collaborating with the legendary Shakira, who returns to the World Cup fold following her iconic 2010 anthem. The collaboration is expected to be a massive global hit, blending Burna’s distinct sound with Shakira’s world-renowned pop style. The full track is expected to drop on 14 May 2026.

So, while you are getting ready to cheer your teams on and support your favourite players, don’t forget to get your groove on with the music. We have no doubt that Rema and Tyla will perform awesomely, providing the perfect vibes for the world’s biggest football party.

Seven months ago, Adekunle Gold released his sixth studio album, “Fuji“, giving us hits like “Many People“, “Don Corleone“, “Bobo“, and “Coco Money“, and now, he has done something even extra with the release of “Fuji Xtra“.

This deluxe edition, arriving today, 8th May 2026, expands the original 15-track body of work with five new songs, including “Formation” with Olamide and “Blue Fire” featuring Simi. These additions are part of a broader, more personal chapter for the artist, who describes this season as one where his long-held dreams have finally become his reality.

In a newsletter shared with fans today, the singer explained that while these professional wins have been public, the most significant change has happened at home as he is now a father of two. “I’m now a father of two,” he shared, describing the “overwhelming tenderness” of welcoming his son. “Sometimes I’m holding him and looking at his sister and I genuinely lose track of everything else for a moment. The noise disappears. The pressure disappears. The world slows down.”

The “Fuji Xtra” era also coincides with his upcoming orchestra shows across North America, a concept he has developed over several years. He noted, “I remember 7 years ago before I released Afro Pop, I sat in Asa’s living room discussing the idea that I wanted to perform with an orchestra someday. I wanted to hear my songs differently with an orchestra.”

Would you believe that Jonathan McReynolds was a bit jittery before he stepped into the spirit tunnel? On his Instagram story, he made a mental picture of how the event would unfold. He posted: “Best case scenario: they remix one of my songs, it’s upbeat which means less time for dancing mistakes, at least 10 people for optimal turnout, I don’t fall.” But you know what, he really did surpass his imagination.

By the time he walked into the now-famous corridor at The Jennifer Hudson Show, whatever nerves he had carried in melted into something lighter. The hallway was already alive with claps landing in rhythm, voices rising together, and a chant that followed him step for step as he made his way through.

Dressed in a grey and charcoal leopard-print denim set, he kept things relaxed but considered. The jacket, finished with a brown corduroy collar, sat neatly over matching trousers, while a silver chain and black loafers with a metal buckle pulled everything together without doing too much. It felt like a look that could move, and that mattered here.

And move he did. Not in a way that felt over-rehearsed, but in small, responsive moments. A finger snap here, a clap there, a slight lift of the hands as he acknowledged the people calling his name. He wasn’t trying to take over the space; he was moving with it, letting the rhythm guide him down the hallway.

The chant carried him along: his name, the show, a nod to his album Closer. It was loud, coordinated, and full of intention, the kind of welcome that builds as you walk into it. You could see him taking it in as it happened, smiling, leaning into it just enough.

By the time he reached the purple-curtained entrance to the studio, he slowed down, paused, and gave a small, telling gesture — a kiss blown into the air, then his hands placed over his chest.

And just like that, the nerves he spoke about earlier felt far away.

Michael Jackson has not released a new song since his passing in 2009. He has not toured, has not done press, and has not dropped a single new release. And yet, as of 1st May 2026, he is the number one global digital artist in the world, sitting ahead of Justin Bieber, BTS, Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Drake, and Rihanna.

The reason is Michael, the long-awaited biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in the title role, which opened on 24th April 2026 in the United States. The film opened to $97 million in its first weekend in North America alone, setting a new record for the biggest opening weekend ever for a biographical film. It has since grossed over $423 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing music biopic ever made for an American artist and the second highest-grossing music biopic of all time, behind only Bohemian Rhapsody.

The chart impact has been swift and significant. Jackson now sits at number one on Kworb’s Global Digital Artist Ranking, a widely followed tracker that measures artist activity across Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, Shazam, and Deezer, with 8,628 points and holding the position for three consecutive days. His Spotify monthly listeners have surpassed 81 million, the highest figure of his career on the platform. Billie Jean jumped 60 places on the weekly Spotify Global Chart to number five, Beat It soared 117 spots to number 15, and Thriller re-entered the Billboard 200 top ten. Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough, Smooth Criminal, and They Don’t Care About Us also entered the global top 100 simultaneously.

Jaafar Jackson, who had never acted professionally before taking on this role, has drawn consistent praise for capturing his uncle’s movement and presence on screen. The film covers the period from Michael’s early years with the Jackson 5 in the 1960s through to the Bad tour in the late 1980s, with a supporting cast that includes Nia Long, Colman Domingo, and Miles Teller.

In a session that can only be described as a beautiful kind of chaos, Ayra Starr recently joined Quenlin Blackwell for a high-energy episode of “Feeding Starving Celebrities,” and it’s an easy watch you don’t realise you’ve spent almost an hour on until it ends.

Spanning just over 55 minutes, the video captures the two navigating the kitchen with plenty of laughter, confusion, and very real attempts at Nigerian cooking.

The original plan was Jollof rice, but somewhere along the way, the Sabi Girl switched things up, steering the menu toward fried yam and eggs, a combo fans already know is her favourite. The pivot felt very on-brand, even as the process unfolded through a series of hilarious missteps that made everything even more entertaining.

Success at last as Ayra Starr prepares her best food, fried yam and eggs, marking the end of a high-energy 55-minute exchange on fame and artistic growth. Photo Credit: Quenlin Blackwell/Instagram

Beyond the kitchen chaos, the episode also offers a more grounded look at Ayra Starr. She opens up about staying true to her creative identity as her sound continues to travel globally, and what it means to grow within an industry that never really slows down. It’s an unfiltered conversation that shows a different side of her, relaxed, honest, and fully in the moment.

Fans have since been in the comments for the banter, the chemistry, and that very relatable attempt at Nigerian staples. Between the laughs and the food, it’s a chaotic, feel-good watch people keep coming back to.

We bring you good news from Mr Money’s camp! If you have been looking forward to a Friday release from the YBNL star, we are here to tell you that you shouldn’t worry too much. Asake has officially released the tracklist of what you should expect from his upcoming album, “M$NEY,” which is set to arrive on Friday, 7th August 2026.

The announcement arrived via a cinematic teaser video featuring a gallery-inspired aesthetic. In the visual, Asake walks through a grand marble hall where the names of his new tracks are etched into the stone, appearing as the floor cracks beneath his feet. The 13-track project includes his pre-released hit, “Worship“, featuring French electronic icon DJ Snake, a collaboration that has already set the tone for the album’s global reach.

Other notable guest appearances include French-Congolese rapper Tiakola and South African Amapiano pioneer Kabza De Small.

“M$NEY” follows the massive success of his 2024 sophomore album, Lungu Boy, which saw the artist experiment with faster tempos and international collaborations. The project was anchored by chart-topping hits like “Active” featuring Travis Scott, “MMS” with Wizkid, and the vibrant “Suru” featuring Stormzy.

Tiwa Savage can be in the studio giving us hit after hit, and in the very next moment remind everyone that when it comes to style, she knows her way around that too. This look from the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation’s Berklee in Nigeria Grand Finale Concert at the National Theatre Lagos is proof.

She stepped out in a two-piece set by Lisa Folawiyo Studio, styled by Ade Owolabi. The top is a one-shoulder crochet design in stripes of coral, orange, cream, and pink. The texture alone draws you in, then the asymmetrical cut leaves one arm bare, placing her tattoo sleeve right at the centre of the look.

Then the skirt shifts the conversation. The fitted upper half carries navy, olive, and yellow stripes, but from the knee downward it opens into long crystal-beaded fringe that falls to the floor and parts at the front with a high slit. Every angle gives you something else to notice, from the contrast in texture to the movement built into the design.

Side profile of Tiwa Savage at the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation’s Berklee in Nigeria event, featuring Lisa Folawiyo Studio craftsmanship and a ruched yellow bag.

She carried a soft yellow ruched shoulder bag that picks up the yellow running through the skirt, while yellow satin mules with floral detail at the toe kept the colour story going. Silver drop earrings, stacked bracelets, and rings on both hands added another layer of detail. Her pixie cut stayed sleek and close, while warm-toned makeup and a full lip held their place against all the colour.

As for the occasion itself, the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation’s Berklee in Nigeria programme brought together the Class of 2026 for their Grand Finale Concert at the National Theatre Lagos, a celebration of young Nigerian musical talent trained under a programme that has become one of the most significant investments in African music education in recent years. That Tiwa chose to show up to this one dressed with this much intention says everything about how seriously she takes the work the foundation is doing.

Tyla is officially ready to usher us into a new era. After months of subtle teasers, the South African singer has confirmed that her sophomore album, A*POP, will be released on 24 July 2026. The announcement arrived via a cinematic trailer that sets a clear tone for what is to come: a project that is unapologetically African, confident, and global.

The trailer serves as a visual manifesto for the A-Pop era. Tyla narrates the transition into this new phase of her career, describing the project as an evolution where she is “settled in” and has a clearer sense of her direction. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she explained that while her debut felt like a “rush,” she now knows exactly what she wants to say. This shift in perspective is evident in the album’s 19-track scope, which Tyla told i-D Magazine “really reflects” where she is in her life now, moving from the initial pressure of a massive debut to a sound that materialised naturally.

It is a significant moment for the singer, who has spent the last two years collecting accolades at a record-breaking pace. Her 2024 self-titled debut, “TYLA,” was the launchpad for “Water,” the viral hit that earned her the first-ever Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance. She proved that success was no fluke by winning the same category again in February 2026 for “Push 2 Start,” making her the first artist to win the award twice and the youngest African artist with two Grammys to her name.

While the full tracklist for A*POP remains under wraps, the album already has a solid foundation. It features “Chanel,” which first appeared on her 2025 mixtape “WWP,” and her recent collaboration with Zara Larsson, “She Did It Again,” which leans into a 2000s-inspired pop aesthetic. There are also reports of a collaboration with Wizkid titled “Dynamite” being part of this cycle, further expanding the cross-continental reach she is aiming for.

Tyla is scheduled to perform at the TODAY Show’s Citi Concert Series in New York City on the day of the release, marking a high-profile start to the album’s life cycle.

History was made on the world stage this week, and we need to talk about it.

Alexia Jayy, a 31-year-old R&B singer from Alabama, became The Voice’s first Black woman champion on 14th April, claiming victory across the show’s entire 15-year history. Let that sink in. Fifteen years, twenty-nine seasons, and it took this woman from a small town in Alabama to finally break that ceiling wide open.

She competed on Team Adam, handing coach Adam Levine his fourth career win, and if you watched that finale, you know it was never really in question. Her finale performances of Patti LaBelle‘s “Lady Marmalade” and Adele‘s “One and Only” brought the coaching panel to their feet, and before the winner was announced, she joined Levine on stage for a duet of his Maroon 5 classic “Sunday Morning.”

Alexia’s journey to that stage began at the Blind Auditions, where her rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) a Natural Woman” earned a chair turn from all three coaches. She chose Adam, partly because her 9-year-old son Matthew is a devoted Maroon 5 fan, which is one of the sweetest origin stories in competition television. From there, she moved through the Battle Round, the Knockouts, and the Semis with a consistency that made her the one to watch all season. Kelly Clarkson compared her tone to Whitney Houston and Lauryn Hill, a pairing that tells you everything you need to know about the kind of voice Alexia carries.

But here’s what makes this story even richer: Alexia Jayy was already building something long before The Voice cameras found her. She sang background vocals for Muni Long on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2022 — a moment she described as one of the most significant of her career, one that people from her small hometown simply don’t get. And earlier this year, she performed alongside Leon Bridges as part of Lauryn Hill‘s Grammy tribute to Roberta Flack at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.

Away from the competition, she released her debut single “Who Raised You” in 2021, and her debut EP “Mixed Emotions” followed in September 2025. She is also a mother, her son Matthew, now 9, watched her stop and start over the years, and according to Alexia, he never once stopped being proud of her.

As winner, Alexia walks away with $100,000 and a record deal with Republic Records, a label under Universal Music Group. Her new single “Rent Free” dropped immediately following her win, produced by Grammy winners Jack Splash and Jim Jonsin, the people behind records for Kendrick Lamar, Alicia Keys, and Beyoncé. In Alexia’s own words, the song is about knowing your worth: “Sometimes people don’t realise what they had until it’s gone, and by then you’ve already moved on. But somehow, you’re still the one on their mind.”
